Day Trippin’ In New York City

The wife and I spent the day in New York City last Sunday. A friend from Idaho was in town doing book signings and promoting her photography in the book called “Ripe: A Fresh, Colorful Approach to Fruits and Vegetables”. The Bieber Bus Company runs regular buses to and from NYC with a terminal that is right down the road. We got the 6AM bus, were in the Port Authority by 7:30AM and joining our friend for breakfast by 8AM.

After catching up for a couple hours, we started making our way downtown to Adorama Photography store. This wasn’t my first choice, but it was on the way to our lunch destination. I was really disappointed with the store. It was very small and there wasn’t much to look at. I really wanted to go to B&H Camera store, but that was a little out of the way so thought we might hit that later. Our lunch destination was Gustorganics which was couple blocks away. Gustorganics claims to be the first 100% certified organic restaurant in the world. We got a nice table by the window where we got to do some intense people-watching. I had Leek-Onion-Potato soup with some killer bread and a Chicken Taco Salad. The Salad was ok, but I was hoping for big pieces of warm chicken and larger pieces of romaine.

Next, we headed to Chelsea Market which was quite crowded. The cheese shop in there was selling grilled artisan cheese panini’s which smelled sooooo goood!!! I refrained. I did have a couple IPA’s in a jar from the filling station. The Wife had a cup of Brussel Sprouts(eyes-rolling). We hung out there for a bit and then started to make our way to Eataly. I decided to skip B&H Camera since it would probably jam us up for time. Not going would allow us to take our time and relax.

We found Eataly up on Fifth Ave. Place was very Italian Market looking. While walking in I passed a tall slender blonde haired girl that looked very familiar. Finally I realized it was Cameron Diaz! That was cool. No one was bothering her either. She was just walking around the crowds doing some veggie shopping. Her basket looked like the picture of health too. With leafy greens and colorful vegetables. Anyway, Eataly has all these different little, open restaurants scattered around the building. They are all open and only separated by shelves of products to purchase. Each restaurant sells one specific type of fare. There is one for meat, fish, veggies, pasta and pizza, appetizers, and desserts. They are very strict that you CANNOT take food from one to the other either, which is really stupid. The Wife wanted fish and I wanted pasta, so we each had to sit twice and watch the other one eating. Really???How stupid is that? The food was ok, but the portions were very small and the prices large. I had a doyley little plate of rigatoni and sauce for $13. The Wife had a small piece of salmon, 2 pcs of asparagus, and some mixed greens for $28. No rush to go back there again!

After eating we headed over to the dessert area for some gelato and a cappuccino. While waiting for my cappuccino, I noticed it had started to rain heavily. It had been pretty nice all day, but our trek back to the Port Authority would be a little wet. We finally get there a little moist, got on the full bus and made our way back to the Lehigh Valley.

That ended my rest week with a nice rest day in NYC. Still got 5-6 miles of walking in, so I kept the blood moving. Next week I will be starting to up the training volume. Hopefully I don’t gain too much weight from all the eating that I get set back too much. Diet is proceeding very gradually, but dropping nonetheless. Still seem to be on target to get to 175 before our Italy vacation.
