Under The Weather

[singlepic id=180 w=320 h=240 float=right]Ok this past week totally sucked! I developed a bit of a head cold the Friday after Thanksgiving from what I think was the drastic change in temperature. During the day on Friday it was sunny and fairly warm. We were out for our Chirunning tune-up in shorts and t-shirts, but as night fell the winds started blowing and the temperature started to drop. As I made my Friday ritual journey to Cali-Burrito, I could feel the pressure in my sinus’ begin to increase. By the time I returned home I just started feeling really achy and overall crappy. I started to attack it right away by cleaning my ears out with Hydrogen Peroxide and flushing my sinus’ with salt water and Neti Pot.

I thought I may have warded off since I felt pretty good on Saturday. Sunday was a different story though. Sunday it was back with a vengeance. I had a rockin’ headache and my nose was like a spigot. As the week progressed it slowly made its way to my chest and the coughing started. The sore throat stage was fairly brief and it eventually went back to my head again. I attempted to go into work on Tuesday, but I was feeling a bit self-conscious about all the coughing, so I ended working from home the rest of the week. I could have gone into work, but why should I annoy everyone and spread more germs around when I can work from home just as well. If more people would work from home when they are sick, then we would not have to be injecting Mercury, Thimerosal, and Aluminum into our bloodstream via the ever useless flu shot.

One thing I realized after working from home all week, is that I don’t think I could stand working from home all the time. There is a social aspect to work that I really started to miss as the week went on. I was a bit surprised at this since I am a pretty firm “I” (introvert) on the Myers-Briggs scale. There is a human contact aspect that instant messaging and teleconferencing just cannot replace. I thought this was a fairly interesting discovery about myself.

As the weekend approached my cough turned to be that dry cough that feels like you itch in your throat. They usually come in waves of coughing spells that make my your head feel like it is going to explode and a nice, splitting headache to boot. The only positive to this phase of the cold is that it usually indicates it is on its way out. Hopefully that is holds true here.

Well, I was looking for some good recovery time this off-season, but this is a bit ridiculous. Could be my body forcing myself into total recovery. I am getting motivated to get back on the regular training schedule again. I am really missing running lately since my wife has been ramping her running up. Hope to have some more positive news next week!
